Pearson completes Certified Lead Renovator certification
By: Jessica
Beginning in April 2010, federal law will require contractors performing renovation, repair, and painting projects in homes built before 1978 to be certified and follow specific work practices. The EPA rule establishes methods and work practices for renovations that may disturb lead-based paint, and it sets up certification and training requirements for home improvement companies performing these renovations. "At issue during renovation in pre-1978 homes is dust that may result during common renovation activities like sanding, cutting, or demolition" Pearson explains. Specific work practices can help minimize dust and contain it to the work area. Thorough cleaning using special cleaning methods is also important. Homeowners seeking additional information on the EPA lead rule can access it at www.epa.gov/lead.
